2023 Speedway World Team Cup: Schedule, Team Lineups, and Rules
2 min readThe Team Speedway World Cup, which returns to the speedway calendar after a six-year break, will start in Wrocław from 25 to 29 July 2023. The competition is divided into two days of semi-finals, the first of which will take place on July 25 and the second day later on July 26. Both semi-finals start at 19:00.
On July 27, a parade of Betard Sparta players will take place, where fans will have the opportunity to meet speedway stars. On Friday, July 28, a play-off match is scheduled between the teams that finished second and third in their semi-finals. The start is also scheduled for 19:00.
Finally, the grand final of the Speedway World Team Cup will take place on Saturday, July 29, at 20:00. The winners of the two semi-finals and the play-off match will face the hosts – the Polish team.
Team compositions
Teams from the Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden, Great Britain, Australia, Denmark, Finland and France will compete in the cup. Poland, as the host, will perform in the final. In the first semi-final, which will take place on July 25, teams from the Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden and Great Britain will compete. In the second semi-final, scheduled for July 26, we will see teams from Australia, Denmark, Finland and France.
The Polish team, consisting of 10 players, will perform in the final under the leadership of Bartosz Zmarzlik. British and Australian speedway riders are expected to be the top riders of the other teams.
Television Broadcasts
The broadcasts of the semi-finals and the play-off match will be available on the Player.pl platform and Eurosport channels. The final of the Team Speedway World Cup will be shown on TTV and on Player.pl. Sebastian Szczęsny and Piotr Protasiewicz will be present in the studio during the broadcast, and commentary will be provided by Michał Korościel and Marcin Kuźbicki. Rules
The Team Speedway World Cup is held in a championship format. The competition is divided into two semi-final phases, in which four teams fight to advance to the final. The top two teams from each semi-final advance to a play-off match, with the winner of that match gaining the right to play in the final. In the final, the teams compete for the Ove Fundin Cup, and the rival of all is the home team – Poland, which will defend its title.
Competition Venue
The entire event takes place at the Olympic Stadium in Wrocław, which is expected to accommodate approximately 13,500 spectators. Tickets for individual matches are available online and at selected points of sale.
